A mastery of tab and groove in sterling silver, the base and 4 sides of the box are locked in solidly without heat or solder.
The Sugilite crowned top nests into the grooves beautifully, and lifts off easily. Through modification of a japanese metal inlay method, he carves a special groove in which to press the copper. A collector's dream.
For more than 30 years, Ray Van Cleve has been fabricating elegant, limited edition and one-of-a-kind sterling silver and high karat gold jewelry, as well as metal art objects. He personally hand cuts and forms all components of his work at his studio in Santa Fe, often incorporating semi-precious stones, such as turquoise, coral and lapis.
Ray was initially recognized for creating saucer, acorn, overlaid and melon-shaped beaded necklaces out of sheet silver. His work has expanded to include pendants, bracelets and small boxes.
